Day 91 Report

.Day 91 - 25/8/07 - Into the Murray

Steve's Report: I guess this is a significant milestone. No more Darling and all Murray now for 832km according to the signs on the river. I feel like Scuffy the tugboat but maybe you have to be my age to have read that book. Jonathan took photos and video so see his photos for what it looks like. It is great to be here after only three months and boy is this place different!

Jonatahn's Report: Yesterday Steve paddled the last kilometre of the Darling River and finally reached the Murray Darling Junction.  As you can imagine, with the Darling taking 6 weeks to complete it is a nice feeling to be on a different river and in a different environment. After officially paddling into the Murray, Steve continued down steam to lock ten where he was forced to get back on the land to walk the kayak around the lock and put it back in on the other side.  With this lock being number 10 it is obvious Steve will have to do this 9 more times before he gets to the Mouth and enters the Great Southern Ocean.

It really does feel like a completely different environment on the Murray. On top of it being highly commercialised with houseboats and water skiers, there is just so much more water when comparing it to the present dry and baron Darling.  There are also going to be a few problems with getting to the river to meet Steve of an afternoon, as most of the land is fenced with locked gates.
